Biography:
Gloria De Vere had it all: Fame, fortune, and the love of throngs of adoring fans. She had been discovered by a Merlin Studios exec when she was just a waitress. With a quick name change and some minor plastic surgery she burst onto the scene as Hollywood’s new “it girl”. She soon had dozens of iconic roles to her name, starring in major blockbusters like the Ruby Redd biopic, Romeo on Wheels, and Globetrotting (in which she co-starred with Gary Cooper). She also became Merlin Studios’ leading scream queen with dozens of roles in their panoply of slasher, monster, and gothic horror movies.
But nothing lasts forever. She began to age out of the most coveted roles and get more supporting parts. Soon she was forced to accept TV work, taking the lead in the Lady Sunbeam Action Hour. For three years she was back on top, but a contract dispute, an actors’ strike, and financial difficulties at UCTV led to the show’s premature end, and the start of a long slide into obscurity for Gloria De Vere.
She grew reclusive, embittered, and hostile, holing up in her slowly dilapidating mansion in Union City. And something in her snapped when the new Lady Sunbeam made her debut. That was Gloria’s role. And she wasn’t going to let anyone steal her spotlight. Merlin Studios had all but closed down, converting to an Indy-style distributor, leaving the old soundstages and prop buildings to rot on the outskirts of Union City. Gloria took this as an invitation, raiding their property and assembling the tattered remains of her earlier roles to help in carrying out her vindictive scheme. She reclaimed costumes, special effects, and props to recreate the icons of films she had once starred in. They’d be making a comeback along with her, including a giant fire-spitting Atomic Kaiju animatronic.
Her first human recruit was a stalker-ish fanboy who had been obsessed with Gloria for years. He had no hesitation about putting on a full-body Sasquatch suit and acting as a getaway driver. A trio of obsessive cosplayers, a pair of hired career criminals, and a mentally unhinged method-actor were next added to the criminal cast.
They hired extras as Alien Cyclopes for “Reality TV” gigs, duping them into acting as unwitting henchmen. Starlet’s biggest get was Kurt Von Kessel, the buffoonish action icon, manipulating him into signing on as her co-star after his failed campaign for mayor of Union City. Now Starlet’s plans are ready. “Lights, Camera... Revenge!”
